Frequently Asked Questions

WHAT IS IT?

The City’s new GOAL Line connects ten schools in northwest Detroit students can be picked up and dropped off at any school on the GOAL Line bus route in the morning or afternoon. So, if you live near one of the schools on the GOAL Line—and can make it to the bus stop in the morning—your child will have access to any one of the GOAL Line schools.

After school, students can also ride the bus to Northwest Activities Center (NWAC) for free after-school programs. Parents can pick up their children from NWAC, or children can ride the bus back to the GOAL Line school that is closest to their home.

HOW CAN I ENROLL?

To enroll in the GOAL Line Program, your student must be enrolled in one of the ten schools that the GOAL Line partnered with. The schools are: Bagley Elementary, MacDowell Prep, Vernor Elementary, University Yes Academy, Detroit Achievement Academy, FLICS, Coleman A. Young Elementary, John R. King Academic and Performing Arts Academy, Cornerstone Lincoln-King Academy, and Schulze Elementary-Middle.

Once your student is enrolled in one of the schools, you can visit our website at https://www.goaldetroit.org/ to sign up for the GOAL Line.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?

It’s completely free!

MY CHILD CURRENTLY RIDES A BUS TO SCHOOL. CAN THEY STILL CATCH THAT BUS?

Yes! The GOAL Line service is an additional option for kids and parents. It is not replacing any existing school bus system.

HOW WILL MY CHILD GET HOME AFTER THE AFTERSCHOOL PROGRAMMING?

We’ll bus your student back to any one of the 10 GOAL Line schools closest to your home (or a different school, if that’s more convenient for you). You tell us the stop, and we’ll take your child there.

HOW DO I KNOW MY CHILD IS SAFE?

There will be monitors on each bus, in addition to the drivers, to ensure the safety of all onboard. Additionally, each student will have a swipe card that they will need to swipe when they get on and off of the bus. Parents will be able to receive a free text message every time their child swipes on and off the bus.

WHAT WILL MY STUDENT BE DOING AT THE ACTIVITIES CENTER?

Students will be able to participate in swimming, robotics, games, sports, arts and crafts, and other engaging activities.
